Les Paul Standard PlusTop and Quilt Top PRO There is a "Plain-Top" model that features a smooth maple top and a "Plus-Top" model that features a flame maple top. It is considered by some as the flagship model of Les Paul manufactured by Epiphone. Very similar to a Gibson Les Paul standard, it has a solid mahogany body, mahogany neck (most models) with a rosewood fingerboard, Alnico Classic Humbuckers, Grover tuning pegs, and a Tune-o-Matic bridge. 17 1959 Les Paul Standard (Limited Edition).9 Zakk Wylde Bullseye Signature Les Paul.5 Les Paul Tommy Thayer Spaceman Signature.2 Les Paul Standard PlusTop and Quilt Top PRO.It may well be I just happened across an example that felt right to me and other examples of the same model wouldn't be the same, I don't know. I need another guitar like a hole in the head, but was just sort of surprised by how much I liked that recent Studio. Is there sort of a "timeline" of the progress of these guitars out there somewhere? Any other details about the newer ones? I haven't been impressed with the electronics on any of them, but the newest one did seem a bit better in that department too.
This one had sort of a matte finish to the Grover tuners and the bridge/tailpiece. It was a solid color, no binding, I think dot inlays. What can you tell me about the newer LP Studios? I'm guessing they're weight relieved, probably without a maple cap. The Goth has a thicker neck than either one and feels ok but nothing special. My older Standard is significantly heavier and the neck doesn't feel as good as the newer one. I recently played a newer Chinese LP Studio at a store and was very impressed with it. It was okay but nothing special, the neck seemed a bit smallish - I traded it off. I used to own one of the older MIK ones with a maple neck. I've owned a couple of these, currently I have an older Chinese LP Standard and a Goth LP (that I put EMGs in).
